What we believe
We believe that the Holy Scripture is the infallible, inspired Word of God and is the all-sufficient guide to faith and practice for the believer.
We believe that there is only one God; eternal (Jehovah God), sovereign (Elohim), infinite, not limited by space or time, perfect, holy, the ultimate in power, love, mercy and grace – revealed in three persons; the Sovereign God (the Father), the Incarnate God (the Son), and the transforming power of God (the Holy Spirit).
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, God’s only true Son and in His virgin birth and sinless life. We believe that Christ died for our sins, arose from the dead, and is coming again.
We believe that all are sinners and, apart from Christ Jesus, are destined for eternal separation from God and His eternal plan for restored joy.
We believe that spiritual restoration and eternal life comes by surrendered faith alone in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, by His sacrificial death and resurrection which conquered death and sin for anyone who believes.
We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells, guides, equips and empowers sinners who are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus to live holy and productive spiritual lives.
We believe that believer’s baptism by immersion is an authentic symbolic expression of obedience to the Lord Jesus and demonstrates a public profession of faith in God through His Son, Jesus Christ.
We believe that by observing the Lord’s Supper we are obeying our Lord as He commanded us, remembering His sacrifice and expecting His return.
We believe that being active in the Body of Christ, His Church, is one of the essential elements for living a fulfilled, Christ-centered lifestyle through worship, prayer and study.
We believe that there is a global mission for the Church of Jesus Christ to seek those who are lost, to share the love of God and His merciful and gracious sacrifice for us, to lead them in knowledge and faith to a commitment of trust and devotion to Him, and to model the lifestyle of obedience through faith in Jesus Christ by example.
FOUNDATIONAL STATEMENT ON SIN: As a body of believers in Christ Jesus, Great Oak Church will not condone known, open, rebellious sin by any member. As a matter of Biblical discipline, any such member will be lovingly encouraged toward renewal (Matthew 18:17; I Thessalonians 4:7).
FOUNDATIONAL STATEMENT ON EQUALITY: We believe and hold to be true that there is no distinction between race, ethnicity, age or gender in the Divine perspective; therefore, everyone shall be treated equally in this body of believers (Galatians 3:28).
